Our one week careers immersive experience allows students to experience first hand what it is like to work in their chosen career path. Whilst there will be some theory, to ensure students can navigate the complexities of the practical side of the experience, they will spend a lot of time on hands-on tasks, being guided by industry professionals.
Where appropriate there are opportunities to spend time in industry, including work placements or visits to key venues or businesses. Students on this experience will gain a huge range of skills in their chosen fields which they can use straight away. Taking part in this experience will give students an incredible addition to their CVs and their university applications.
We offer a five night residential option where desired at an additional charge. Depending on which presentation of the course it is, this may be at Canford School in Poole. At other times, we use equally amazing accommodation normally used for students of Bournemouth University.
The residential package includes three meals a day, single occupancy options, use of leisure facilities, as well as a fun packed activities programmes in the evening, such as contemporary dance classes at Bournemouth Pavillion or tours of the haunted and eerie deserted Tyneham Village. We thoroughly recommend the residential programme which allows students to make lifelong friends and contacts. Networking is key in all industries, and it is important to learn those skills as early as possible!


On our lawyer course, you will be working on a caseload of mock files, ranging from criminal matters to disputing a will.
You will be expertly guided through your caseload, producing legal analysis and documents, with your work culminating in mock trials at the end of the week.
Included in the week is a day visiting live courtrooms in Bournemouth.

As a scientist on our forensics course, following some instruction on theory, you will be visiting a mock crime scene in the New Forest and collecting evidence that, back in the lab, you will be analysing.
Learning a range of forensics techniques with industry experts, you will use various equipment to perform chemical analysis, DNA extraction and more.
You will also get the opportunity to speak to other professionals who deal with the process and reality of death, a very tricky aspect of this work.

With our medic experience, young medics will get the chance to learn a range of hands on skills, including suturing various wounds and even taking blood using our phlebotomy training equipment.
With our expert medical professionals, you will learn how to monitor various bodily rhythms using a range of medical equipment and technology.
Our students on this course will have access to both live and dummy models to practice all their newly acquired skills, and will leave not only with a thirst for further development in their medical career, but with a good knowledge of life saving techniques. Available from 2027.

Veterinary medicine career path students will spend some time covering the theory of medicine and looking at specialisms in the field. They will also learn, using prosthetic equipment, how to suture wounds and how to take blood, amongst a range of other techniques.
Included in the course is an advanced pet first aid course, which will result in a recognised qualification, as well as giving potentially life saving knowledge to the young future vet to use immediately.
As part of the course, students will also have a one day work placement, seeing what it is like in a real world veterinary setting in the Bournemouth area.

From criminological psychology, to understanding the complexities of PACE, learn the dos and don'ts of police investigation in this course. As part of the experience, you would work closely with the forensic science students and attend a mock crime scene. As part of the week, students will also work on a cold case, attempting to solve the case using various forensic methods, as well as learning some interview skills.
One day is spent looking at the role of an FBI agent to give a comparative approach to policing.
The political element cannot be ignored, and governance will be a prominent feature of the course.

Using some state of the art training equipment and prosthetics, and under the guidance of dentistry professionals, our dentist career students will learn how to perform some basic dentistry assessments, as well as suturing gums and performing basic surgical skills.
For the final two days of the week, students will also have the opportunity to attend work placements in dental surgeries in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area.

With a focus on international politics, theories of governance and co-operation are considered through the filter of sustainability to produce the leaders of tomorrow. Students will face considerable mock challenges to manage proactively as a team, and will innovate sustainable solutions for current global problems.

As well as architectural theory, and an opportunity to be ultra creative, students will have the opportunity to learn scientific principles of geology and engineering to work on mock briefs as if being commissioned by both a private enterprise for innovative building solutions and a government for much needed infrastructural development.

Across 5 days, students design a small piece of research, apply for ethical approval, get assigned a supervisor, collect data and process that data using various statistical skills, and learn the skill of academic writing and referencing. As academics often teach, so the student will also role play tutorial sessions, teaching their area of expertise to other students. This course would suit students who are looking to enter academic careers, rather than as practitioners.
