During the February half term, we run a soft skills development course, looking at 21 key skills that will assist in life at university and as a fledgling academic. From resilience to time management, from academic writing to budgeting, students will look at all 21 skills in workshops over 5 days. Residential and day student options available.
The full list of skills covered: Time management, communication, teamwork, critical thinking, research, academic writing, leadership, confidence, adaptability, networking, organisation, presentation skills, reading, study skills, budgeting, creativity, handling constructive criticism, independent learning and resilience.
Also during the February half term, we offer an academic immersive week. Across 5 days, students design a small piece of research, apply for ethical approval, get assigned a supervisor, collect data and process that data using various statistical skills, and learn the skill of academic writing and referencing. As academics often teach, so the student will also role play tutorial sessions, teaching their area of expertise to other students. This course would suit students who are looking to enter academic careers, rather than as practitioners.
